Red Umbrella in Byron Bay

At the most Easterly point of Australia is Byron Bay. A popular mecca for backpackers and travellers. The view up to the Gold Coast and the mountains of Northern New South Wales and Queensland is magnificent. It helps to have some great waves for surfing and body boarding too.

The orginal plan was that I’d be hidden away here for 5 days before going into the jungle. I was spotted within 10 seconds of arriving on the beach. So it was a short stay here by the red umbrella. But often short visits can be the most memorable and the view was a great inspiration for this spectacular painting.
